Tania Willard
Drawing on her mixed Secwépemc and settler-Scottish ancestry, Tania Willard has developed a collaborative, land-based art practice, which engages with the histories, lived realities, and futures of her community. Her interdisciplinary work fosters connection to land, culture, and family, centering art as an Indigenous resurgent act, through collaborative projects such as BUSH Gallery and support of language revitalization in Secwépemc communities.
Tania Willard is the 2025 winner of the Sobey Art Award and she is the Director of the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, University of British Columbia.
Willard's curatorial practice includes projects at the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe (2022 - ongoing), Presentation House Gallery (2016) and the Vancouver Art Gallery (2012-2014), among others. Willard is represented by Pale Fire and Unit 17.
